Sub-project Title:
Strengthening Food Safety and Traceability in Nigeria’s Cassava Value Chain through YucaChain, YucaVault, and YucaHub
Funding Awarded:
€ 58,000
Location of the sub-project:
Ilorin, Kwara State; Ibadan, Oyo State
Die Yuca-CVH project develops and pilots a three-in-one integrated system designed to strengthen food safety and traceability in Nigeria’s cassava value chain.
The system combines YucaChain (digital marketplace and traceability app), YucaVault (mobile, energy-efficient storage extending shelf life from 48 hours to over two weeks), and YucaHub (community aggregation and certification centers).
The project addresses food safety risks linked to weak value chain organisation, spoilage, and lack of authentication in the informal sector.
Over 12 months, the pilot will onboard 100+ farmers and 20+ processors in Ilorin and Ibadan, log traceable transactions, validate spoilage reduction, and demonstrate a scalable model for safe, structured cassava distribution across Africa.
The project objectives align with the organization’s mission of making agricultural trade more profitable and reliable by reducing post-harvest losses through transparent technology and decentralized infrastructure.
YucaChain Limited
YucaChain Limited is a Nigerian agri-tech startup developing integrated digital and physical infrastructure to improve food safety, traceability, and post-harvest management in Africa’s cassava value chain.
They are simply bridging the gap between farm-gate supply and industrial demand, while making cassava processing and production more profitable. This is achieved through the integration of a number of independent, yet interwoven systems.
The organization addresses lack of market access, weak traceability, and post-harvest losses in the cassava ecosystem. The company brings together personnel with agricultural engineering, food science, and software development expertise to build scalable, climate-smart solutions aligned with national and regional food safety standards.
Their vision is to lead the transformation of Africa’s agricultural value chains through technology, infrastructure, and farmer-centred innovation.
